Former Ohio Mayor Leads Police on High-Speed Chase

A routine traffic stop in Parma, Ohio quickly escalated into a high-speed chase when the driver, a former mayor, appeared disoriented and uncooperative. This incident, captured on police bodycam footage, raises questions about accountability and the consequences of driving under the influence.

A Routine Stop Takes a Turn

On September 27th, a Parma police officer initiated a traffic stop after clocking a vehicle traveling at 43 mph in a 25 mph zone. The officer’s bodycam footage reveals the driver, later identified as Cathy Lux, former mayor of North Royalton, appearing confused and dismissive of the officer’s requests.

“Let’s go ahead and pull this into park,” the officer calmly requests.

“No. What’s that? Why? I got you going 43 in a 25?” Lux responds, her words slightly slurred.

The officer informs Lux that her plates are expired, but she continues to deflect, refusing to provide her driver’s license.

A Short-Lived Pursuit

Instead of complying with the officer’s instructions, Lux speeds off, leading the officer on a dangerous chase through residential streets. Reaching speeds of 65 mph, Lux’s reckless driving culminates in a collision with a tow truck.

The officer apprehends Lux, who appears increasingly agitated and disoriented. As she is being handcuffed, she repeatedly reminds the officer of her previous mayoral position, as if it somehow exempts her from the law.

Facing the Consequences

Lux was cited for a string of offenses, including operating a vehicle while intoxicated, driving with an open container, speeding, and driving with expired plates. She was booked into jail and released the following day.

This incident serves as a stark reminder that no one is above the law, regardless of their past or present position. The consequences of driving under the influence can be severe, putting not only the driver but also innocent bystanders at risk. Lux’s case remains open, and she awaits her day in court.
