The idyllic coastal city of Delray Beach, Florida, was recently shaken by a horrifying crime that has left the community reeling. A man, identified as William Lowe Jr., has been arrested and charged with the murder of his wife, Ideal Barbosa Fontes, in a case that involved dismemberment and a chilling discovery of body parts in suitcases.
A Gruesome Discovery Rocks Delray Beach
The investigation began on July 21st, when a suitcase containing human remains was found floating in the Intercoastal Waterway. The Delray Beach Police Department, led by Chief Russ Major, immediately launched a full-scale investigation. The following day, a multi-agency marine operation recovered two more suitcases with human remains.
Witnesses and Surveillance Footage Lead to a Suspect
“The men and women of the Delray Beach Police Department worked tirelessly, around the clock, since July 21st,” said Chief Major in a press conference. Detectives meticulously canvassed the neighborhood, gathering witness statements and combing through surveillance footage.
The breakthrough came when multiple witnesses reported seeing a suspicious vehicle in the area prior to the discovery of the suitcases. “They had video surveillance that they supplied us with,” revealed Detective Mike Roberta, “They led us to other neighbors who also saw him in the area.”

One critical piece of evidence was a security video that captured Lowe’s Ford Taurus, with a distinctive ID tag, near the location where the suitcases were found. This, along with the witness accounts, solidified their suspicions, leading investigators to Lowe’s residence, which was situated close to where the grim discovery was made.
Unraveling the Evidence: A Search Warrant and a Shocking Confession
Armed with a search warrant, investigators entered Lowe’s apartment. The scene that greeted them was nothing short of horrific. “There was blood spatter in the apartment,” Detective Roberta confirmed, indicating a struggle had taken place.
Inside the apartment, they found evidence that pointed directly to Barbosa Fontes as the victim. “There was also an airline scan code within one of the suitcases that came back to an ‘A Barbosa,’ missing a character,” Detective Roberta explained, “It was ‘O-N-T-E-S,’ and then we saw that ‘Fontes,’ ‘F-O-N-T-E-S,’ lived at that address.”
During the search, Lowe was caught attempting to sneak back into his apartment through a rear window. “He seemed very nervous,” an officer recalled, “He stated that he knew he wasn’t supposed to be there; he just wanted to get his phone as well as the keys to his storage unit.”
A Storage Unit Holds the Gruesome Truth
The storage unit, secured with keys found on Lowe, held a chilling piece of evidence: a chainsaw. Investigators believe this was the tool used to dismember Barbosa Fontes’ body.

A medical examination determined Barbosa Fontes’ cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head. A firearm was also recovered from Lowe’s residence.
Justice and Uncertainty: A Community Seeks Answers
William Lowe Jr. has been charged with first-degree murder and improper dismemberment of a human body. He is currently being held without bond.
The brutality of the crime has left the community searching for answers. While a motive remains unclear, law enforcement officials are working tirelessly to build a solid case against Lowe.
As the investigation continues, the residents of Delray Beach are left to grapple with this horrific act, hoping for justice for Ideal Barbosa Fontes and some semblance of closure.
