Patrick Mahomes Sr has been arrested for driving while intoxicated, it has been reported.
According to jail records, the 53-year-old father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was arrested on Saturday night in Texas.
The former MLB pitcher was booked in the Smith County Jail in Tyler, Texas and is facing a charge of DWI for the third time or more, according to reports.
The latest update reports that he has been released on $10,000 bail.
Mahomes Sr was sentenced to 40 days in jail in 2019 after being arrested on the same charge.
The timing of the incident couldn’t have been much worse as the younger Mahomes gears up for Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday.
His Chiefs takes on the San Francisco 49ers in 2024’s ‘Big Game’, and NFL fans are all saying his father’s arrest is incredibly bad timing.
Patrick Mahomes is one of the greatest QBs of all time and is on the cusp of a third Super Bowl ring.
But concerned fans are hoping the latest news regarding his father isn’t too much of a distraction and doesn’t affect him in Sunday’s clash.
“How will this affect Patrick the football player?” one fan on X, formerly Twitter, wrote.
“Cant imagine how this is affecting Patty especially right before the Super Bowl. So tragic,” said another.
“Oh no i hope this doesn’t affect Mahomes game next week,” added a third.
“Could this have an affect on the Super Bowl next week?” a fourth wrote.
Others, however, suggested Mahomes is the consummate professional and won’t be allowing outside noise to distract him ahead of the momentous occasion.
The Chiefs’ official Twitter account shared photos of the team, including Mahomes, touching down in Las Vegas ahead of the showpiece event at Allegiant Stadium.
Footage showed Mahomes stepping off the plane and fans posted their support to the two-time Super Bowl MVP.
“Stay locked in, guys – the Kingdom believes in you!,” one Kansas City fan wrote.
“Let’s lock in,” replied another.
The latest news around Pat Mahomes Sr comes just days after he came to the defence of his son’s physique.
The Kansas City star’s ‘dad bod’ went viral after the AFC Championship game win over the Baltimore Ravens.
“He’s at the gym all the time,” Mahomes Sr told CNN.
“He works out three times a week.
“He’s just unfortunate he got that from me. That’s in his DNA. We don’t get the muscles like DK Metcalf and some of the guys that are built like rocks and statues.
“We just got this natural dad bod, but hey, we representing.”
Mahomes Sr also shared his thoughts on the upcoming Super Bowl saying, “‘Well, it’s exciting.
“Every sporting team…their goal is to get to that final game and they’ve been fortunate enough to get back now four times and hopefully we can finish it off right this time.”
