When Missouri couldn’t figure out a way to pay for a polling station at Arrowhead Stadium, the Kansas City Chiefs and quarterback Patrick Mahomes chipped in the $100,000 necessary to offer voters a safe experience at the polls.

The Texas resident said he voted via absentee ballot and encouraged others to vote as well. Mahomes, who is biracial, has spoken out in support of the Black Lives Matter movement in recent months and pushed back against critics who believe athletes shouldn’t express their political stances. More recently, the quarterback teamed up with LeBron James’s “More Than A Vote” campaign to help get Black citizens registered to vote.

“I thought it was very important, not only just to get as many people out to vote as possible, but also to use a place [such] as Arrowhead where we have a lot of fun, show a lot of love and unity with people are coming together, and use it as a place where we can come together to vote and use our voice,” said Mahomes at a press conference. “I thought Arrowhead was a perfect place for it and the Chiefs were all aboard with it, and some other guys on the team, we all just made our efforts strong and really got it to be a central point for everybody to go vote.”

His answer was in response to a question from a reporter about several fans in Missouri that allegedly wrote in Mahomes’s name on the presidential ballot. More than half of the state’s votes reported thus far are for President Trump, and Missouri’s six electoral votes are likely to go to the Republican nominee.
“It’s funny getting written in for sure, but that’s not anywhere I’m thinking right now, maybe later on I’ll think of a slogan or something like that,” quipped Mahomes.
