Packers lose in embarrassing fashion to Lions: Best memes and Tweets

NFL Twitter legitimately couldn’t believe the Packers found a way to lose to the Lions as Green Bay’s troubles reached new levels.

Both the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions were in free fall coming into Sunday’s game. The Lions found a handhold. The Packers kept plummeting.

Aaron Rodgers threw three interceptions while completing just 53 percent of his passes. NFL Twitter was ready to send him into retirement by halftime.

Detroit’s defense stepped up to limit the Packers to just nine points. They stopped them short on three fourth-down conversion attempts and held them scoreless in the red zone.

Those who watched the game still looked at the 15-9 scoreline at the final whistle and almost couldn’t comprehend it had happened.

The Lions just beat the Packers? The Detroit Lions? Are you sure?Wow. (Conversation that just happened with myself)

The @packers have lost 5 straight games. Last time they did that? 2008…Rodgers first season as a starter. They scored 9 points against the worst scoring defense in the NFL, that came in averaging 36 points allowed at Ford Field. Green Bay, this is what rock bottom looks like

The Lions entered today allowing 32.1 points per game, by far the worst in the NFL. They hadn’t held anyone to fewer than 24 points. The Packers managed 9 points today and have lost 5 straight games with Aaron Rodgers at QB for the first time since 2008.

When Mike McCarthy visits Lambeau Field next Sunday as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys he will have more wins with Cooper Rush (4) at quarterback than Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers do period (3) this season.

The Packers having to call timeout to avoid a delay of game on 4th down and then almost getting another delay of game out of the timeout shows you something is very wrong in Wisconsin.

Aaron Rodgers, on 4th down for the game, nonchalantly delivers a too-cool flip to … nobody in the end zone. Throws up his hands as if Sammy Watkins went the wrong way. Fitting way for this loss in Detroit to end.

Much of the attention after the game was paid to the Packers’ futility but there were those who just wanted to celebrate the Lions’ accomplishment.

The story is going to be the Packers taking the L, but the Lions had a huge part in that. Credit the Detroit defense for making life ugly for the Packers and winning in the red zone

Lions are the best team in the NFL BABY WOOOO

Gritty win today. Hard fought @Lions https://t.co/v8OgK4Flh2

Congratulations to the Detroit Lions on winning their Super Bowl.

Jared Goff and the Lions offense weren’t always pretty but they came away with points in a timely fashion. Shane Zylstra scored the first touchdown of the game with 15 seconds left in the first half on a one-yard pass from Goff. The quarterback then successfully pulled off a two-point conversion to Jamaal Williams

The decision to go for two put pressure on the Packers to respond. When they finally hit paydirt in the third quarter courtesy of Allen Lazard’s 20-yard touchdown, Green Bay also attempted a two-point play but it didn’t come off.

That made Detroit’s touchdown on the very next drive all the more important. Goff tacked on a three-yard score to James Mitchell at the beginning of the fourth quarter.

Green Bay’s attempts to close the gap were futile. They had to settle for a field goal at the end of a 14-play, eight-minute drive. They got the ball back with two minutes to play and Rodgers got the offense to the Detroit 17 but his final fourth-and-10 attempt fell incomplete to end the game.
