When Odell Beckham Jr. took the field Sunday, he was not only $65 million richer, but was rocking a fresh buzz under his Giants helmet.
As the barber for Big Blue, Miami-based Art Pique, 36, has been styling New York’s star receiver since he first entered the team’s facility as a rookie in 2014.
“At the time, [now retired safety] Antrel Rolle was the team captain when I started nine years ago, and Odell walked in there as a rookie. Let’s just say that I felt that he needed my services,” Pique tells The Post. “He has really good hair, and I expressed that to him a couple of times. And before you know it, I was cutting his hair, we created a friendship and the rest is history.”
Pique’s connection to Rolle, 35, goes back to his childhood — “We’re 20 years in at this point” — and he and Beckham, 25, became fast friends.
“It’s kind of funny with me and Odell,” Pique says, “when I first started cutting his hair, I saw the vision of what he was trying to accomplish, and I ran with it, and as it grew, it kind of just got this iconic look. It became an iconic look, and we’ve kind of grown it together.”
Pique, whose house calls start at $200 a pop, will come up from Miami when Beckham needs his services, and the two often travel together. He and Beckham brainstorm when it comes to creating the lightning rod’s style, which the Giants star typically shares with his 11.5 million Instagram followers.
“Sometimes he’ll be like, ‘Hey man, I’m thinking about this,’ and sometimes I’ll tell him, ‘We should do that.’ And usually we agree, and it’s a mutual thing and we come together collaboratively and make it happen and you see the product,” Pique said.
Though Pique isn’t responsible for dyeing Beckham’s signature golden mane, he and his clippers are used to working under pressure for the superstar.
“It should be at least an hour for a haircut, but there’s times when Odell’s like, ‘Hey man, can you do this in 15 minutes?’ And I’m like, ‘OK, let’s figure it out,’ and sometimes, we pull it off really fast,” Pique said.
Pique is close to adding Beckham’s running mate, No. 2 pick Saquon Barkley, to his roster of clients as the two are currently in a testing phase.
“Right now, at this moment, I only cut Odell’s hair, and it seems like I’ve got Saquon [Barkley] on board,” he says. “I’ve cut his hair about a handful of times, so it’s looking like we’re building something with him. Maybe I’m cutting Saquon this season, but in this moment, I’m focused on Odell.”
