Selena Gomez originally recorded a version of DJ Snake’s ‘Let Me Love You’ but ultimately decided not to release it.
Selena Gomez has opened up about why she chose not to collaborate with Justin Bieber on DJ Snake’s ‘Let Me Love You’.
Fans of Selena Gomez will already know that the 30-year-old recorded a version of DJ Snake’s ‘Let Me Love You’ before her ex Justin Bieber released his version of the song. In fact, Selena played excerpts of her version of ‘Let Me Love You’ on her Snapchat back in 2016 and DJ Snake also released excerpts of the demo on his social media accounts later that year.
Now, Selena has appeared to address the cancelled collaboration in her new documentary Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me.

The documentary includes a scene in which Selena breaks down after a Revival Tour rehearsal. Crying with her friends, she says: “It just sucks. All of it. It looks so bad. I have no idea what the fuck I’m doing… The pressure is overwhelming. I don’t want to disappoint John [Janick, Interscope CEO]. I don’t want him to think that he signed some fucking Disney kid.”
She then seems to reference what would have been a feature on ‘Let Me Love You’. Selena says: “It just sucks too, cause like the whole song thing. [John] called me this morning about the song with Justin and I’m like, ‘when am I just gonna be good enough by myself? When am I gonna be good just by myself, not needing anyone to be associated with?'”
Based on the timing and Selena’s comments, it sounds as though DJ Snake was going to originally release ‘Let Me Love You’ as a Justin and Selena duet. However, Selena decided not to entangle her career with Justin’s.
Referring to their relationship later, Selena says: “I felt haunted by a past relationship that no one wanted to let go of.” Selena then wrote ‘Lose You to Love Me’ as her way of bidding that relationship goodbye.
Selena later went on to collaborate with DJ Snake on ‘Taki Taki’ and ‘Selfish Love’.
