10 years ago, Cam Newton led Auburn Football to the top

Celebrate Auburn football’s 10-year anniversary of their first National Championship of the new millennium with Fly War Eagle.

I wouldn’t recommend storming Toomer’s corner right now or really storming anything for that matter. In the absence of large public gatherings at pubs and in public places, Fly War Eagle wants you to enjoy your loved ones and those closest to you when you celebrate the ten-year anniversary of Auburn football’s National Championship win against the Oregon Ducks.

If you could do it from the pleasant peacefulness of the outdoors on the Plains-41 degrees sounds a lot nicer than the below-freezing temperatures of the Northeast-no one is saying you can’t still celebrate responsibly with the community.

Then again, the NFL Playoffs are a damn good reason to stay inside, too.

Anyways, congrats Tigers! Today is a sacred day in the 334, as Auburn truly became one of ESPN’s darlings after winning the fourth-to-last title game to broadcast on the network. That’s likely the reason Auburn football still ends up on ABC on New Year’s Day after going 6-4 in 2020.

Auburn exceptionalism began in 2011, on this day. “All I do is win” began on this day a decade ago as well.

War Cam Newton became a thing too and lives on to this day.

Per, the official Auburn Athletics website, Newton’s 2011 Heisman win was one of many amazing aspects of that special team:

“Auburn capped a 14-0 season in 2010 with an SEC Championship and BCS National Championship. Quarterback Cam Newton won the school’s third Heisman Trophy while joining DT Nick Fairley and OL Lee Ziemba as All-America selections. The Tigers defeated six ranked teams including a 28-27 win against Alabama in Tuscaloosa after overcoming a 24-0 Iron Bowl deficit.”

That paragraph reads out like a dream season, all the way down to beating ‘Bama. Gene Chizik’s career peaked, and his Auburn football teams were never any more than mediocre at best and bottom-feeding at worst.

Newton went on to lead the Carolina Panthers to the 2016 Super Bowl, and his career has yet to be determined by how great it could be.

War Eagle, and congratulations to all involved in the 2010 National Champion Auburn Tigers!
