Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom announced in February they’d broken up, saying via a joint statement they were “taking respectful, loving space at this time.”

In the months since then, it seems the tabloids have been unable to produce any controversial intel on why they split, and according to Bloom their drama-free break-up was no act.

“We’re friends,” he told ELLE UK this week. “It’s good. We’re all grown-up.

“She happens to be someone who is very visible, but I don’t think anybody cares about what I’m up to,” he continued. “Nor should they. It’s between us. It’s better to set an example for kids and show that [breakups] don’t have to be about hate.”

The 40-year-old Lord Of The Rings star was apparently in the mood to open up about his exes: he also discussed his co-parenting situation with former wife Miranda Kerr, with whom he shares custody of son Flynn, six.

“With [the split from] Miranda, there was a sense that I don’t want my son to go back through the internet where people made up lies,” the Brit said. “Miranda and I have a remarkable relationship. We co-parent really well.”

He did make some comments that Miranda and her Snapchat founder fiancé Evan Spiegel, avid social media users, might not agree with though.

“[Millennials] live their lives through their phones,” he lamented. “What happens to my son? How is he going to have a real relationship if it’s all happening on his phone? Disconnecting is massively important.”

And finally, Orlando also touched on the headline-making photos of him paddle-boarding naked that hit the internet last year, while he was on holidays with Perry, saying the situation was “extremely surprising”.

“I’ve been photographed a million times in a million different ways,” Bloom explained. “I have a good radar. We’d been completely alone for five days—nothing around us. There was no way anyone could get anything. I had a moment of feeling free.”

Of course, there was a way for at least one paparazzi to snap him, and the shots were no doubt sold for a staggering amount of money. But he has a good sense of humour about it all.

“What can I tell you? Note to self: You’re never free. Ha!”
