Russell Wilson leads his Bible study group to bless, pray with community

On Sunday, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson was his usual proficient self in leading his squad to victory over Carolina, 30-24. He completed 20 of 26 passes for 286 yards and two touchdowns, bringing his season total to 3,708 passing yards (sixth in the NFL), 28 touchdowns (third), just five interceptions (fourth) for a QB rating of 72.1 (fifth).

The 31-year-old followed that up Monday night by leading his weekly Bible study group, which consists of 40 pro and college athletes, to donate clothes, jackets, toiletries and more to the Seattle community. Wilson posted a message on Twitter about the evening, saying, “But more importantly we all shared the greatest gift tonight, God’s eternal love.”

He included a video of him praying over the gathering, during which Wilson said, “Jesus, You call us to love. I pray we would love more like You, to speak more like You and sound more like You, and to not judge, Father God, but to just love one another.”

JESUS did Wonders tonight!!! Wow God is good! 40 of us Pro & College Athletes from our weekly Bible Study got together & gave our warm clothes, jackets, socks, toiletries & more but more importantly we ALL shared the Greatest Gift tonight. Wilson has long been vocal about his faith, whether it’s posting Bible verses on social media or leading prayers after games or buying his mom a house for Mother’s Day. “I want to love like Jesus,” he says.

And to make a good week even better, Wilson on Tuesday was named to the seventh Pro Bowl of his eight-year career. Furthermore, he’s led the Seahawks to an 11-3 record, which gives them the NFC’s No. 1 seed as of now (due to tiebreakers with three other teams owning the same record). According to the Seahawks, Wilson is the first NFL quarterback to lead his team to winning records in each of his first eight seasons. Should he lead Seattle to one more this season, he’d surpass Tom Brady for the most victories in a QB’s first eight seasons.
