The 2024 Toyota Tacoma has been teased long enough on social media to the point where fans can barely contain themselves. This truck has had a long-running reputation of almost 20 years as one of the most reliable mid-size pickup trucks around, and the prospect of the next-gen model right around the corner would make anyone excited. Thankfully the time has come for the automaker to make the truck’s official reveal to the world, and the company wasn’t kidding around when it revealed in a statement that the design team’s focus was to make it a “Badass Adventure Machine.”

As a vehicle with lots of anticipation behind it, the 2024 Toyota Tacoma does more than live up to the hype. A popular choice for outdoor enthusiasts, this truck’s newest chapter has raised its standards for performance, durability, reliability, and most of all… fun.

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma is The Ultimate Adventure Machine

An already established off-roading truck, the 2024 Toyota Tacoma pushes its presence through the dirt and mud to a new level. The addition of a new front stabilizer bar disconnect feature allows riders to amp up its articulation by 10 percent, making rough terrain a breeze. In addition, it is compatible with Toyota-approved lift kits.

Another feature that many off-roading enthusiasts will adore is the Tacoma’s Multi-Terrain Select, which adjusts the truck to pre-programmed settings when driving through different environments like Mud, Dirt, and Sand.

It also comes with a quieter CRAWL Control function that serves as an off-roading cruise control that operates at a slow speed, giving greater handling and confidence to the driver.

The Downhill Assist Control helps drivers maneuver those tricky descending trails by limiting the max speed of the truck. The new Tacomas with manual transmissions will also receive a standard clutch start cancel that allows it to start while already in gear. This means that the driver won’t have to ease on and off the clutch while driving through challenging terrain.

Rugged Construction & Durability

New Tacoma owners will have the benefit of extra durability thanks to this next-gen truck sharing the same TNGA-F global truck platform that is utilized by the new Tundra and Sequoia. Just like its bigger siblings, the 2024 Toyota Tacoma is built from high-strength steel to increase its rigidity from its predecessors. The truck’s upper body is also built from Aluminum to decrease its overall weight, and the cross members of its frame are reinforced for greater strength when carrying cargo on its roof like camping gear or construction supplies. The roof itself comes with pre-installed attachment holes that allow overlanders to install a Toyota-compatible rooftop tent.

This truck also has a new front cross member for its steering gear box to improve its rigidity and support without sacrificing handling, especially for off-roading adventures.

Improved Suspension

This 2024 Toyota Tacoma has multi-link rear suspension is another big improvement over its predecessor’s use of leaf springs by replacing them with a set of coils. However, the leaf springs do come standard on the SR, SR5 XtraCab, and TRD PreRunner models. Each of the new Tacomas come equipped with suspensions specifically tuned for each grade. The TRD Sport comes with sport-tuned shocks that are more responsive than the base model, as well as a set of monotube Bilstein remote reservoir shocks. The TRD Pro features the FOX QS3 three-way internal bypass shocks that are adjustable, and come with remote reservoirs for more high-speed off-roading fun. The coveted Trailhunter features Old Man Emu (OME) 4×4 suspension from ARB that are tuned for high levels of off-roading and load carrying. Lastly, the Limited model comes equipped with a new Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) that is always adjusting itself based on changes in the road’s conditions.

Improved Towing & Payload

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma has a max towing capacity of 6,500 lbs on the SRSR5 i-FORCE and TRD PreRunner XtraCab models. However, the TRD Off-Road model increases that towing capacity to 8,209 lbs.

This truck’s towing ability will see some improvements with support features like a trailer brake controller, trailer backup guide, and digital display mirror. The new Tacoma comes with Trailer Back Up Guidance to assist the driver’s path while controlling the movement of a trailer. The Straight Path Assist is also available to help back up your truck and trailer in a straight line.

For hauling and work functions, the 2024 Toyota Tacoma has a 7-percent increase in bed volume for hauling gear, equipment, and supplies. The aluminum tailgate comes with ana available power open and close feature with jam protection. The gas-powered models come with a 400W AC inverter outlet installed in the truck’s bed, as well as on the rear of the center console. Meanwhile, the i-FORCE MAX models feature a larger 2400W AC inverter. There is also 12V DC power access in both the bed and cabin of the truck. Lastly, the Trailhunter model comes equipped with a pre-installed high-output air compressor in the truck’s bed, which can come in useful for quickly filling up its larger tires with air.

New Emphasis on Power

For a truck that sees itself embarking into the great outdoors, it is going to need a selection of powertrains that can handle multiple environments. The entry-level SR models come equipped with a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 228 horsepower and 243 lb-ft of torque. For all other new Tacoma models, that output is increased to 278 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque when paired with the new eight-speed electronic automatic transmission with ETC-i intelligence.

However, owners that prefer a stick shift will be happy to know that the 2024 Toyota Tacoma is also available with a six-speed intelligent manual transmission (iMT2) along with automatic rev-matching and anti-stalling tech. Manual-shift models will be able to generate 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque.

Meanwhile, those who purchase the 2024 Toyota Tacoma with the i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain, which is the most powerful platform a Tacoma has ever seen, will pair the 2.4-liter engine with a 48-hp electric motor built into the eight-speed transmission while feeding off a 1.87-kWh NiMH battery to maximize its power output to 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. This platform nearly doubles the torque output of the standard SR models.
