The Philadelphia Phillies’ first-round selection in last month’s MLB draft made his full-season debut this past week.

Aidan Miller, this year’s No. 27 overall selection, was promoted to the Single-A Clearwater Threshers on Thursday, making his debut that day and playing with the team through the weekend. After a stellar 10-game stint in the rookie-level Florida Complex League, the right-handed hitter now has a chance to finish out his first taste of the professional baseball against some fiercer competition.

The 19-year-old out of Mitchell High School in Florida batted .414 in 10 FCL contests before being sent to Clearwater. Suiting up for the Threshers in Lakeland, he went hitless with a walk in his first game on Thursday. Miller singled and walked on Friday before rounding out his first series in the Florida State League on Saturday with a double and walk.

Miller played all three games at shortstop for the Threshers, making it 12 games as the shortstop and one as the designated hitter to begin his professional career. It was thought when he was drafted that he could move off the defensive position he played in high school — his player page on even listing him as a third baseman. But, at least for now, Miller is getting reps at shortstop in his first year of development.

It’s still very early for the teenager, but he’s certainly a promising prospect. With an advanced bat for his age, Miller could be an impact offensive player in the future. And with his recent promotion as evidence, the Phillies seem to be pleased with the start of his potential path to the big leagues.
